Nikhil Jyotendra Mehta

Gen 6 - 1935-2021 (86 years)

Nikhil, the youngest grandchild of Lallubhai Samaldas, was highly proficient in the field of Electronics, and inherited music skills from his mother, Madhurika.

  • Topped the Bombay University in M.Sc. (Inorganic Chemistry) from Royal Institute of Science at Elphinstone College

  • A commendable paddle tennis and billiards player, and an all-round cricketer

  • Started a world-class corrugation factory - Paper Corrugation & Packaging Pvt Ltd - at Charkop (Bombay), serving top brands in the country

  • A self-taught electronics and audio expert

  • Setup Sudeep Studio - one of India’s first home-based professional recording studio at his Andheri house (1977)

  • One of the first few buyers of a Personal Computer in Bombay (early 1980s)

  • Developed accounting and attendance software for schools in 1986 (way ahead of its time)

  • Co-founded India’s first online portal for audio and music (1999) - SudeepAudio.com

  • Best pro-audio equipment dealer in India - IRAA award to Sudeep Audio (2013)

  • Digitally archived and catalogued over 2,000 hours of Indian Classical Music for Sangeet Kendra Trust  (owned by Smt. Gita Sarabhai, younger sister of Shri Vikram Sarabhai)

  • Till age 86, edited over 500 videos for converSAtions - his company's YouTube channel

  • Worked in the field of digital audio recording and innovation until his last days (2021)

  • 18th IRAA Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Audio Recording (2024)
